Senior Quantitative Analyst

Alpiq Hydro Aare AG seeks a Senior Quantitative Analyst in Lausanne to build optimization and valuation models for energy assets and structured products. The role combines stochastic modelling, programming, and cross-functional collaboration in a hybrid setup.

The company is looking for a Senior Quantitative Analyst to design and refine quantitative frameworks that support trading and risk management. The position focuses on building stochastic models for power and gas markets, optimizing physical asset dispatch, and delivering robust valuation tools for structured energy products.

Responsibilities

• Build and refine advanced optimization and valuation frameworks for physical assets and structured energy products.
• Apply and enhance stochastic dynamic programming techniques to optimize dispatch and asset valuation.
• Calibrate quantitative models using market and fundamental data inputs.
• Produce risk metrics and sensitivity analyses to assist Trading and Risk teams.
• Validate models through back-testing against historical market and operational data.
• Develop stochastic models to capture power and gas price dynamics.
• Enhance the scalability and numerical efficiency of valuation systems.
• Partner with Structuring, Trading, Risk, and other departments to convert market insights into quantitative solutions.

Requirements

• University degree, ideally a PhD, in Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related quantitative discipline.
• Practical experience in power and/or gas markets, including a solid grasp of physical asset behavior.
• Proven expertise in deterministic and stochastic modelling, optimization, and Monte Carlo simulation.
• Familiarity with financial derivatives and structured products.
• Proficient programming abilities in Python, alongside at least one other language.
• Fluent command of English.

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with Least-Squares Monte Carlo (LSMC).
• Proficiency in additional programming languages beyond Python.
