Senior System Engineer

The company seeks a Senior System Engineer in Pully to manage and evolve Microsoft-based infrastructure, ensuring stability and performance through automation and expert support.

Reporting to the System Team leader within the Platform department, this position serves as a central technical reference for the group. The specialist drives the implementation, ongoing development, and operational reliability of Microsoft-centric platforms. By blending deep technical knowledge with forward-looking problem solving, the role standardizes solutions and collaborates closely with architects, engineers, and clients to shape system design and operational standards.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, sustain, and enhance Microsoft-centric environments, including Windows Server, Active Directory, SQL Server, IIS, and WSUS.
• Oversee and fine-tune virtualized setups using VMware ESXi and vCenter, managing the full lifecycle of virtual machines.
• Architect and refine system designs to guarantee optimal performance, scalability, and robust security.
• Track infrastructure status continuously to detect and address potential problems before they impact operations.
• Deliver advanced technical support, including second-level assistance, complex incident resolution, and thorough root cause analysis.
• Streamline operational tasks through automation utilizing PowerShell, Puppet, Rundeck, and Terraform.
• Maintain the stability, security, and currency of Microsoft systems throughout their operational lifespan.
• Disseminate technical knowledge, establish standards, and contribute to comprehensive documentation and team best practices.

Requirements

• Deep proficiency with Windows Server and the broader Microsoft ecosystem, covering Active Directory, Group Policy, IIS, SQL Server, WSUS, RDS, and DFS.
• Strong background in virtualization technologies, specifically VMware vSphere and Proxmox.
• Demonstrated expertise in backup solutions, particularly Veeam.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, including DNS, DHCP, VPNs, firewalls, proxies, and load balancers.
• Advanced scripting and automation capabilities using PowerShell and Python.
• Hands-on experience with monitoring platforms such as CheckMK or comparable tools.
• Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code and configuration management, utilizing Terraform and Puppet.
• Fluent written and spoken communication skills in both French and English.

• Familiarity with public cloud environments like AWS and Azure.
• Practical experience administering Linux distributions such as Debian and RHEL.
• Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving abilities.
• Strong capability in documenting processes and sharing technical insights.
