Inautalent seeks a Senior Theoretical Physicist in Martigny, CH, to contribute to the International Space Federation’s fundamental physics research. The role involves developing theoretical frameworks, writing scientific papers, and collaborating with physicists and engineers on advanced topics in spacetime, quantum vacuum, and gravitation.

This position supports the International Space Federation’s (ISF) core theoretical physics research by producing peer-reviewed papers, technical reports, and scientific expositions. It is a research and writing-focused role, not communications or outreach, and involves close collaboration with senior scientists and a small interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Study and understand ISF’s theoretical physics programme, including spacetime geometry, quantum vacuum, gravitation, and field dynamics.
  • Help develop theoretical arguments, derivations, models, and connections between ISF’s framework and established physics.
  • Identify inconsistencies, assumptions, or opportunities for extension in existing materials and work with senior physicists to address them.
  • Review relevant literature in quantum mechanics, general relativity, quantum field theory, and related fields to situate ISF’s work accurately.
  • Draft, revise, and improve theoretical physics papers, technical reports, and internal research documents.
  • Translate complex theoretical concepts into clear, structured, and mathematically rigorous scientific writing.
  • Collaborate on manuscript sections with physicists and engineers, ensuring clarity in claims, notation, and references.
  • Prepare materials for peer review, conferences, grant applications, and internal coordination.
  • Work iteratively with the Principal Theoretical Physicist and Chief Scientist on research direction and argument structure.
  • Support experimental and applied teams by clarifying theoretical implications, predictions, and interpretive frameworks.
  • Incorporate feedback from internal and external reviewers into drafts while preserving scientific precision.
  • Maintain well-organized theoretical documentation to support a shared scientific foundation for the team.

Requirements

  • PhD in physics, theoretical physics, mathematical physics, or a closely related field.
  • Strong knowledge of quantum mechanics and general relativity, including the required mathematical tools.
  • Proven ability to write advanced scientific content clearly, precisely, and accurately.
  • Ability to quickly learn and critically evaluate unfamiliar theoretical frameworks.
  • Capacity to produce high-quality written work independently with attention to detail.
  • Fluency in English for scientific writing and discussion.

Nice to have

  • MSc in physics, theoretical physics, mathematical physics, or a related field.
  • Research experience in theoretical physics, quantum gravity, quantum field theory, gravitation, vacuum energy, or spacetime geometry.
  • Experience writing, co-writing, or editing peer-reviewed papers, preprints, technical reports, or similar scientific materials.
  • Familiarity with foundational approaches to spacetime, vacuum structure, gravitation, or the interface between quantum mechanics and general relativity.
  • Comfort using LaTeX and scientific typesetting workflows.
