ABB seeks a Technical Service Specialist in Untersiggenthal, CH, for its Energy Industries division. The mid-level, full-time hybrid role involves commissioning and servicing power systems, supporting project teams, and contributing to digitalization efforts with up to 60% travel.
This position supports ABB’s Energy Industries division in Switzerland, reporting to the Service Manager. It focuses on overseeing commissioning for low- to medium-complexity projects and guiding Associate Commissioning Engineers in power plant environments.
Responsibilities
- Commission and service Automatic Voltage Regulators and Static Excitation Systems in power plants of all sizes, including installations up to 1000 MW; conduct remote support and network stability studies focused on power plant stability and grid code compliance.
- Support project design improvements, attend project review meetings, contribute to engineering proposals, and assist Contract Managers with claims issuance.
- Develop work plans and cost estimates, assess risks and opportunities during commissioning, and report potential issues with proposed resolutions to meet business and customer needs.
- Share information with contractors and colleagues, provide feedback to the organization to incorporate lessons learned, and enhance processes through automation and digitalization for efficient project delivery.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, IT, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in commissioning for power generation or as a power system engineer conducting power system studies.
- Collaborative, solution-oriented mindset with strong written and spoken communication skills in English and advanced German.
- Deep understanding of power systems simulation tools (PowerFactory and PSS\E), synchronous machines, excitation systems, control theory, data analysis, and information technology.
- Willingness to engage with clients and teams globally, with a travel commitment of up to 60%.
