Mid-level Policy Officer role at IOM in Geneva focusing on strategic migration policy development, advisory support to country offices, and policy analysis. Requires a Master's degree and experience in migration policy or governance.
Reporting to the Chief of the Migration Policy Division and the Senior Policy Development and Coordination Officer, this position strengthens the organization's policy capacity. The role is central to generating strategic migration policy advice and supporting the implementation of the institutional policy agenda.
Responsibilities
- Provide advisory and technical support to regional and country offices through policy analysis, expert input coordination, and review.
- Help execute the institutional policy agenda by aligning priority migration policy processes across regional offices and headquarters divisions.
- Develop policy intelligence, foresight tools, analytical products, and strategic insights to inform decision-making.
- Assist in implementing the Migration Governance Indicators (MGI) and supporting related data efforts.
- Prepare and edit policy papers, technical guidance documents, briefing notes, speeches, reports, and other strategic materials.
- Collaborate with headquarters divisions and field offices to ensure coherence in policy support and governance analysis.
- Help design and deliver capacity-building programs, workshops, and technical assistance.
- Contribute to proposal writing, donor reporting, partnership development, and identifying funding opportunities.
- Attend and participate in internal and external meetings, workshops, and technical consultations.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Social Sciences, Law, or a related discipline, plus two years of relevant professional experience; or a Bachelor’s degree with four years of relevant experience.
- Proven experience in migration policy development, governance processes, public policy analysis, or advisory work at national, regional, or international levels.
- Full professional proficiency in English (written and spoken).
Nice to have
- Prior experience supporting technical assistance, capacity-building initiatives, workshops, policy dialogues, or government engagement processes.
- Background in partnership development, project development, or programme management activities.
- Understanding of migration governance frameworks, policy processes, and the use of data and evidence in policymaking; familiarity with migration governance indicators or related analytical tools.
- Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish.
