AI & MLOps Engineering Consultant (Experienced, German-speaking)

MLAB Basel seeks a senior AI & MLOps consultant to help clients scale data and AI solutions from prototype to production. The role requires strong technical expertise in ML systems and fluent German and English communication skills.

This position is designed for an experienced engineer who can guide organizations in moving their data and machine learning initiatives beyond the experimental phase. The consultant will focus on operationalizing, scaling, and ensuring the continuous delivery of robust AI products, acting as a trusted advisor to clients while contributing to the company's growth in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide consulting, engineering, and training services to help clients grasp the capabilities and constraints of data and ML engineering.
• Analyze client needs to define and recommend the most suitable technical solutions.
• Lead the transition of data and machine learning projects from pilot or prototype stages into full production, ensuring proper integration, testing, and adherence to engineering standards.
• Develop solution blueprints and conceptual frameworks.
• Build expertise in AI Engineering and MLOps to serve as a reliable advisor.
• Take full ownership of assigned tasks, present outcomes to stakeholders, share knowledge with the team, and collaborate effectively with both client and internal groups.

Requirements

• At least three years of professional experience as a Machine Learning, AI, or Software Engineer specializing in data and ML systems.
• Proven experience working with major data and AI platforms.
• Solid understanding of DataOps, DevOps, and MLOps best practices, including concepts like Data Mesh, Data Lakes/Warehouses, and Reliability Engineering.
• Familiarity with data engineering, machine learning, and Generative AI models, frameworks, and tools.
• Strong interest in and understanding of the end-to-end lifecycle of projects, code, models, and data pipelines, along with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
• Hands-on technical proficiency in programming languages, distributed systems, databases, cloud services, APIs, microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, Agile methodologies, and CI/CD.
• Prior experience in client-facing or consulting roles.
• Fluency in both German and English, written and spoken.
• Possession of a Swiss passport or a valid EU/EFTA work permit.
