Application Engineer – Technology Preparation

Rieter seeks an Application Engineer for Technology Preparation in Winterthur to support R&D, validate machine concepts, and provide expert technical support for next-generation textile preparation systems.

This position sits within the Technology Preparation Team, where the primary objective is to advance research, development, and validation efforts for upcoming preparation machinery. The role merges practical machine operation with deep textile process knowledge, requiring the incumbent to solve complex technical problems and engage directly with customers to ensure product excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess new technological possibilities for future preparation machines.
  • Participate in R&D initiatives, covering trials from carded sliver through to final yarn production.
  • Execute machine conversions, modifications, and adjustments on prototype and trial equipment.
  • Validate machine concepts, software features, and technology components during research and pre-series stages.
  • Monitor machine reliability and performance, documenting findings and suggesting process enhancements.
  • Diagnose technical issues in internal labs and at customer locations.
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for Service Engineers, Customer Technology teams, and end-users.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and optimizing installed machinery, including travel to customer sites when necessary.
  • Plan and analyze lifetime testing data to evaluate machine performance and durability.
  • Deliver structured feedback to development teams to drive continuous product improvement.
  • Collaborate with Technical Product Owners, Competence Centers, Process Analytics, Digital Solutions, and Customer Technology groups.
  • Train Service Engineers and Customer Technologists, promoting knowledge sharing and best practices.

Requirements

  • A technical background as a Service Engineer, Textile Engineer, or a comparable qualification.
  • Hands-on experience with combing and drawframe technologies.
  • Prior work with textile machinery or within spinning mill environments.
  • Solid understanding of textile preparation and spinning processes.
  • Fluent proficiency in English.
  • Competent skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 30% of the time.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with blowroom and carding processes.
  • German language skills.
