R&D Dyeing Engineer

Bcomp seeks a Mid-level R&D Dyeing Engineer in Fribourg to develop ampliTex™ for visual and automotive applications, managing sampling, process industrialization, and color performance.

This position sits within the product development team at Bcomp, where the primary focus is advancing ampliTex™ for visual applications. The engineer will oversee customer sampling activities and lead the development and industrialization of dyeing processes specifically tailored for the automotive sector.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all sampling activities related to dyeing.
  • Partner with Sales and Automotive Customer Support to grasp technical expectations, application needs, and specific customer requirements.
  • Choose appropriate technologies, treatments, and colors that meet criteria such as color accuracy, UV resistance, durability, and compatibility with various polymer matrices and composite manufacturing methods.
  • Draft clear technical specifications for prototypes, samples, and development trials.
  • Liaise with suppliers to guarantee that delivered samples and prototypes adhere to defined standards and arrive on schedule.
  • Execute internal sampling and development tasks within the company’s dyeing laboratory.
  • Assist in industrialization efforts by collaborating closely with R&D colleagues and other internal stakeholders.
  • Establish quality requirements and specifications for serial production.
  • Offer on-site technical assistance to suppliers to create reliable, repeatable processes, including performing process capability studies.
  • Investigate the interplay between raw materials, dyeing methods, composite manufacturing, and final color performance, including stability and resistance to change.
  • Help develop new colors, enhance process reliability, and minimize the environmental and economic footprint of dyeing operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Textile Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Deep understanding of textile treatments, dyeing techniques, and finishing processes.
  • Fluent command of English.
  • Capacity to work independently while actively sharing relevant updates with the team.
  • Organized and structured approach to handling multiple projects and customers concurrently.
  • Skill in establishing, optimizing, and continuously improving processes.
  • Excellent communication abilities and a service-oriented attitude when supporting customers and internal teams.
  • Willingness to travel when necessary.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional and multicultural environments.
  • Positive, proactive, and energetic mindset with a solution-oriented attitude.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience with natural fibers, yarns, and composite materials.
  • Fluency in German, French, or Italian.
  • Proficiency in any additional language.
