Destinusgroup in Payerne, CH, seeks a mid-level Automation Technician for full-time onsite work. The role involves designing, building, and maintaining automated systems for rocket motor and pyrotechnic component manufacturing, working closely with Automation Engineers and adhering to Swiss/EU safety and electrical standards.
This position bridges design and execution, turning automation concepts into functional systems on the shop floor. The Automation Technician collaborates with engineers to develop and implement solutions, focusing on electrical and control systems for aerospace defense applications, where safety, reliability, and performance are critical.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Automation Engineers on new automation projects, from initial concept to prototype and operational deployment
- Design, build, and wire electrical cabinets following Swiss and EU standards, with certification to perform these tasks independently
- Program and commission PLCs for production and R&D environments using structured text (e.g. Wago with Codesys)
- Support integration and programming of collaborative robots, especially Universal Robots (UR) and Polyscope 5 or similar platforms
- Apply machine safety practices in line with Swiss SUVA regulations and the Machinery Directive
- Install, commission, and maintain automated machinery used in rocket motor and pyrotechnic component production
- Diagnose and fix electrical and control system issues, performing both corrective and preventive maintenance
- Keep accurate records of wiring diagrams, commissioning details, and maintenance logs according to company standards
Requirements
- Completed vocational training (EFZ) as an automation technician, electrician, or equivalent, with certification to independently build and wire electrical cabinets
- 2–3 years of experience in automation, electrical installation, or industrial controls
- Strong understanding of machine safety standards and SUVA regulations for automated systems, preferably with ESTI Certification
- Experience programming PLCs using structured text (e.g. Wago with Codesys or similar systems)
- Experience integrating or programming cobots, ideally Universal Robots (UR) and Polyscope 5 or comparable platforms
- Ability to create wiring schematics and interpret technical drawings
- Structured, reliable, and safety-focused work approach; capable of working both independently and in a team
- Good communication skills in English; German is optional
- Willingness to travel to other Destinus sites in Switzerland (up to 20% of time)

- Interest in and some experience with the design and development aspects of automation, beyond just building and maintaining systems
