Destinusgroup in Zürich, CH, seeks a Mid-level System Engineer for full-time onsite work. The role focuses on developing aerospace and defense systems, including rocket and missile products, using agile system engineering methods and military standards.
The System Engineer role supports the development of next-generation aerospace and defense systems at Destinusgroup, transforming engineering challenges into mission-ready products. The position covers the full agile system engineering lifecycle, from requirement gathering to system architecture and verification, supporting Destinus’ UAV innovations and partnerships with global defense organizations.
Responsibilities
- Collect and analyze system requirements from customer inputs, then document them in system and product specifications for rocket and missile products.
- Apply an agile V-model approach to trace requirements through design, implementation, and verification/validation stages.
- Assist in defining system architecture and decomposing it into subsystems such as rocket/missile, launcher/platform, C2 system, and radar/target detection.
- Collaborate with engineers from various disciplines including propulsion, mechanical, electrical, software, and safety.
- Participate in design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR) to support the product development process.
- Support implementation and integration/assembly phases from a system engineering perspective.
- Develop and execute test procedures (ETPs) during verification and validation phases.
- Coordinate with external suppliers and engineering service providers.
- Prepare for environmental qualification and regulatory certification according to military standards.
- Manage system configurations and track changes throughout the development lifecycle.
- Join field test campaigns for integration, verification, and validation of rocket and missile systems.
- Create technical documentation including user manuals, test reports, and maintenance procedures.
- Contribute innovative ideas to maintain technological leadership in missile and rocket products.
- Support both structured product development and rapid prototyping within the engineering department.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 2 to 5 years of experience in system engineering, preferably in defense or aerospace.
- Willingness to travel and participate in field test campaigns for missile and rocket systems.
- Familiarity with military standards (MIL-STD, STANAG) and airworthiness regulations.
- Experience with engineering and requirement management tools such as Jama, Jira, and Confluence.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, international, multidisciplinary team.
- Proactive, ownership-driven mindset with strong problem-solving abilities.
- Analytical thinking and capacity to work independently.
- Fluency in English is required.
Nice to have
- Prior experience in a tier 1 defense supplier company with direct interaction with military customers.
- Knowledge of technical areas relevant to missile and rocket systems, including propulsion, communication protocols, tactical data links, firing control, radar sensors, and safety.
- German language skills are an advantage.
