ABB Power Grids seeks a Senior Commissioning & Start-Up Engineering Professional in Baden, CH. The role involves planning, executing, and overseeing commissioning activities for substation automation and protection systems, ensuring safety, compliance, and customer satisfaction.

This position focuses on the end-to-end management of commissioning and start-up processes for electrical systems. The professional will be responsible for preparing detailed plans, coordinating technical execution, and ensuring successful project handover while maintaining strong relationships with customers and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all pre-commissioning, commissioning, and start-up phases until final handover.
  • Create and update commissioning schedules, manuals, test procedures, and related documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, and external partners to solve technical challenges and achieve customer approval.
  • Utilize technical knowledge to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant commissioning operations while supporting continuous improvement efforts.
  • Conduct testing and commissioning for control and relay panels as well as substation automation systems.
  • Perform commissioning tasks in strict adherence to Hitachi Energy and customer safety protocols.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and maintain professional client relationships.
  • Execute commissioning procedures using documented checklists, resolve outstanding issues, and obtain customer sign-off.
  • Monitor site progress, manage planning, and optimize the use of commissioning equipment and tools.
  • Submit marked-up drawings for as-built documentation and final customer delivery.
  • Identify and track risks within the assigned area, keeping stakeholders updated.
  • Mentor junior commissioning engineers and coordinate activities with smaller teams or associates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Multiple years of practical experience in commissioning protection, control, or substation automation systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of protection relays, substation communication protocols (such as IEC 61850), and associated testing equipment.
  • Deep knowledge of safety standards and compliance regulations in utility or industrial settings.
  • Proficiency in reading engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, engineers, project managers, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities with the capacity to work autonomously at customer locations.
