Roche seeks senior Discovery Scientists for in vitro and in vivo pharmacology roles in Cardiovascular & Metabolic Disease Research in Basel, Switzerland. Candidates must hold a PhD in Life Sciences with expertise in metabolic diseases and have over 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience.

This role is part of Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) organization, supporting the discovery and early development of treatments for cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. The position is within the Cardiovascular & Metabolism, Immunology (CMI) team in Basel, with a focus on preclinical research for novel therapies affecting millions of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and carry out experiments to assess the effectiveness and safety of new therapeutic candidates.
  • Lead research initiatives in metabolic diseases such as insulin resistance and obesity, from target identification to clinical development, covering both small- and large-molecule approaches.
  • Help prioritize and position new metabolic and immunological targets by integrating disease biology, biomarkers, and modality choices aligned with Roche’s CVM pipeline.
  • Collaborate on designing, running, and analyzing complex preclinical in vitro and in vivo studies to validate and characterize targets or treatments.
  • Oversee and standardize new experimental methods, work closely with associates, and transfer assays for consistent execution.
  • Serve as a scientific resource in project teams and communicate findings clearly and professionally in writing and speech.

Requirements

  • PhD in Life Sciences with specialization in metabolic diseases, including insulin resistance, obesity, or muscle and adipose tissue physiology.
  • More than 5 years of experience in research and project leadership within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven ability to present scientific data and concepts clearly to colleagues, teams, and management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactive and resilient mindset suited to a fast-paced, collaborative research environment.

Nice to have

  • Experience in in vivo or in vitro pharmacology, with a history of successfully leading preclinical projects in metabolic diseases and immunology.
