ETH Zurich seeks a PhD candidate to research multi-modal SAR methods for observing environmental changes in permafrost regions. The role involves developing signal-processing algorithms and analyzing TanDEM-X data.
The Chair of Earth Observation and Remote Sensing at ETH Zurich is looking for a doctoral researcher to join a project focused on multi-modal synthetic aperture radar (SAR) techniques. The position aims to create generic methods and algorithms for estimating environmental parameters in arctic regions, specifically targeting large-scale rapid change observations in permafrost areas.
Responsibilities
- Analyze TanDEM-X difference digital elevation models to identify retrogressive thaw slumps across pan-Arctic, watershed, and local scales.
- Design and code signal-processing algorithms using programming languages like Matlab, Python, C/C++, or similar tools.
Requirements
- Hold a Master's degree or diploma in electrical engineering, geomatics engineering, geophysics, physics, or a closely related discipline, with a solid foundation in digital and/or image processing.
- Demonstrate strong analytical abilities and practical programming experience in Matlab, Python, C/C++, or comparable environments.
- Possess fluent oral and written English skills.
- Be prepared to collaborate within a multidisciplinary and international research team.
- Maintain a valid European Cat. B driver's license.
