Embedded Software Engineer

Mettler Toledo seeks a Mid-level Embedded Software Engineer in Nänikon to modernize RXE and CSS product lines through platform updates and future-oriented development.

This position sits within the Embedded Software team at the global headquarters near Zurich. The primary focus is advancing the RXE and CSS product lines by modernizing existing platforms and creating innovative solutions for inspection and quality assurance systems.

Responsibilities

• Build and configure embedded software for new devices and platforms.
• Assess microprocessors and embedded technologies for upcoming projects.
• Manage, update, and extend current products throughout their lifecycle.
• Help migrate legacy products to modern software architectures.
• Maintain and enhance Debian Linux kernels and drivers as needed.
• Diagnose and fix hardware and software defects.
• Work closely with electronics, mechanical, and software engineering groups.
• Provide technical support to production, assembly, and service teams.
• Suggest improvements to development workflows and processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of three years of hands-on experience in embedded software development within industrial R&D settings.
• Proficiency in modern C++ and C programming languages.
• Familiarity with Git version control and contemporary software development practices.
• Strong grasp of electronics fundamentals, including schematic reading and signal measurement.
• Knowledge of unit and system testing methodologies, along with the Zephyr RTOS.
• Fluent command of the English language.

Nice to have

• Experience with Python or C#, plus tools like GCC, CMake, Visual Studio Code, and Azure DevOps.
• Background in Embedded Linux systems and Linux driver development or maintenance.
• Ability to communicate in German.
