The company seeks a Mid-level Embedded Hardware Engineer in Payerne, CH, to design and develop next-generation intelligent technologies for surface safety systems.
Boschung Mecatronic AG, the technology-focused division of the Boschung Group, is expanding its Hardware R&D team. This position focuses on engineering, producing, and supporting advanced electronic and mechatronic systems designed to monitor and manage road and airport surface conditions across various weather scenarios.
Responsibilities
- Translate customer needs into technical specifications and validation plans.
- Write embedded software for microcontrollers using C/C++ to manage peripherals, sensors, and communication interfaces.
- Help define hardware and software architecture to ensure seamless integration between electronics and firmware.
- Implement communication protocols including RS-485, CAN Bus, BLE, UART, SPI, I²C, USB, and Ethernet as needed.
- Develop low-level interfaces for sensors, actuators, and communication modules.
- Perform prototyping, debugging, and validation using lab equipment like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
- Maintain development quality and traceability through technical documentation, design reviews, and testing.
- Support existing products, including component obsolescence management.
- Collaborate with software, mechanical, and production teams throughout project phases.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in electrical engineering, embedded computing, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in embedded systems development.
- Proven experience in C/C++ software development for microcontrollers.
- Hands-on experience with STM, PIC, dsPIC, or similar microcontrollers.
- Proficiency in embedded communication protocols such as RS-485/Modbus, CAN Bus, BLE, UART, SPI, I²C, USB, and/or Ethernet.
- Knowledge of embedded debugging tools like JTAG, SWD, daisy chaining, or J-Link.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently and collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
- Fluent French and good English; German is a plus.
Nice to have
- Experience with real-time operating systems (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, ThreadX, etc.).
- FPGA development experience (VHDL).
- Knowledge of MQTT protocols or wireless communications.
- Background in Machine Learning (ML).
