Engineering Operations Technician, Data Center, DCEO

Amazon Switzerland seeks a Mid-level Engineering Operations Technician in Zürich to maintain critical data center electrical and mechanical systems, manage vendors, and ensure infrastructure uptime.

This position focuses on the independent troubleshooting and upkeep of essential electrical and mechanical infrastructure within one of the world's largest information system networks. The technician operates with minimal supervision to keep critical facilities running smoothly.

Responsibilities

• Oversee on-site activities for contractors, sub-contractors, and external vendors.
• Track performance metrics and compile reports on key facility operations.
• Create Change Management requests and Incident Management tickets as needed.
• Update and contribute to documentation related to business and facility processes.
• Help with rack installations, including powering up equipment and providing necessary cooling.
• Conduct routine maintenance and handle emergency repairs on critical systems.
• Support the design, commissioning, and construction of new facility areas.
• Manage facility assets and ensure compliance with work orders and contractual SLAs.
• Attend Construction and Operational Meetings to stay aligned with project goals.
• Collaborate with Infrastructure Operations teams for daily operational needs.
• Help resolve infrastructure engineering issues and service disruptions.
• Adhere to daily operating hours and participate in on-call rotations.
• Monitor alarms and systems controlling power, cooling, and fire suppression.
• Coordinate vendor tasks to ensure equipment maintenance and high uptime.
• Provide support to other teams and sites during planned works or special events.
• Facilitate the handover process for new equipment.
• Mentor new team members and share technical knowledge.
• Take part in event response drills to prepare for potential incidents.

Requirements

• Proven experience with electrical or mechanical systems, or equivalent training.
• Solid understanding of data center infrastructure, including mechanical, electrical, controls, and life safety systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and engineering drawings.
• Proficiency in Windows operating systems and standard business applications.
• Fluent command of the English language.
• Possession of a valid Swiss work permit.
• An Electrical or Mechanical Engineering diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Specific knowledge of mechanical systems such as HVAC and controls, or key electrical competencies and theory.

Nice to have

• Prior experience in mission-critical environments like data centers, oil and gas, marine, production, or medical facilities.
• A diploma or degree in a relevant technical discipline.
• Swiss electrical switching certification.
• Fluency in German.
