Fullstack Software Engineer (Email Security & Anti-Abuse)

Proton seeks a Mid-Senior Fullstack Software Engineer to join its MSA group, focusing on email security, anti-abuse, and AI-driven solutions within a hybrid work model in Geneva.

This position sits within the MSA group, the primary team at Proton dedicated to mail delivery, spam prevention, abuse mitigation, and account security. As the central AI-focused group, the team operates through autonomous units responsible for the entire system lifecycle, ensuring robust protection for the Proton ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineers and analysts to design, construct, and maintain core systems.
  • Create user-facing features that require both frontend and backend development expertise.
  • Oversee the full planning and development lifecycle, potentially acting as a Product or Project Manager.
  • Guarantee operational excellence and seamless interaction between systems and features.
  • Develop custom solutions using Python, the main Proton API in PHP, React-based web apps, or native mobile applications for iOS and Android.

Requirements

  • Strong background in backend development using Python, PHP, or Go.
  • Proven experience in frontend design and coding with JavaScript, React, TypeScript, or jQuery.
  • Track record of building complex systems for production environments.
  • Proficiency in data processing and storage technologies such as MySQL, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, Elastic, Ceph, or ClickHouse.
  • Ability to work independently and lead projects from initial design through to quality assurance.
  • Hands-on experience with AI tools and AI agents.
  • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Background in machine learning and real-time prediction systems.
  • Experience developing applications for iOS or Android platforms.
  • Knowledge of Linux server management, including infrastructure as code with Puppet or Ansible, and containerization practices.
