ETH Zurich seeks a Group Lead for Advanced Mechatronic Systems to direct independent research, secure funding, and teach within the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering.

The AMS Group Lead will direct an independent research program within the Department of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. This role focuses on integrated mechatronic systems, covering electromagnetic actuators, sensing, electrical machines, control, and system-level integration.

Responsibilities

  • Design and carry out a research program centered on integrated mechatronic systems, electromagnetic actuators, and electric motors.
  • Participate in teaching activities, including lectures, project supervision, and student thesis guidance.
  • Secure and oversee research funding from both public and industrial partners.
  • Hire and mentor PhD candidates and researchers to establish a stable and productive research group.

Requirements

  • Hold a PhD in electrical or mechanical engineering, specializing in mechatronics or a closely related discipline.
  • Possess deep expertise in mechatronic systems, electromagnetic actuators, sensing, electrical machines, or drive system control.
  • Show proven capability or strong potential to establish and pursue independent research trajectories.
  • Demonstrate a history or clear capacity to obtain funding and successfully execute projects.

Nice to have

  • Prior experience in university-level teaching and mentoring students or junior researchers is advantageous.
  • Background or strong interest in leading teams, encouraging collaboration, and supporting professional and personal development.
