Senior Mechatronics Engineer

Abbott seeks a Senior Mechatronics Engineer in Zurich to lead design updates and maintenance for implantable and extracorporeal blood pump systems, collaborating with global teams.

The company, a global leader in magnetic levitation blood pump technology, is looking for an engineer to manage the design, maintenance, and regulatory compliance of its mechatronic devices. This position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams in Switzerland and the US to ensure the timely completion of projects and the sustainment of the product portfolio throughout its lifecycle.

Responsibilities

• Oversee on-market products by addressing manufacturing, regulatory, and quality requirements for the entire portfolio.
• Coordinate multiple projects and tasks to ensure they are completed on schedule.
• Maintain Design Control Process documentation, including risk management files, for all design changes.
• Plan, execute, and document tests in strict adherence to Design Control processes and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Production teams to support the electronics and mechanical components of the portfolio.
• Assist in product development activities across the full lifecycle of Class 2 and Class 3 Medical Devices.
• Participate actively in both internal and external audits.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent from ETH, FH, or comparable institution.
• Minimum of five years of experience in a similar role within the MedTech industry.
• Strong background in mechatronics and electronics.
• Solid understanding of mechanics.
• Basic understanding of embedded software architecture and documentation.
• Experience in Design Verification planning and execution.
• Knowledge of medical standards like IEC 60601, ISO 13485, FDA 21CFR820, ISO 14971, MDR, GMP, GDP.
• English Level C2 is required.

Nice to have

• Communicative German is a plus.
• Hands-on experience in electronics obsolescence activities.
• Knowledge of Windchill (PLM and Change Control system), Altium (PCB Design) and Solid Works (CAD).
• Experience in manufacturing of mechatronic medical devices.
• Knowledge of statistical methods, techniques, and statistical software tools.
