R&D (Senior)Testing & Lab Engineer

The company seeks a Senior R&D Testing & Lab Engineer in Baden-Dättwil to manage lab infrastructure, build power electronics prototypes, and support scientific research within a multinational team.

This position sits within a young, international group at the ABB research center in Baden-Dättwil. The team's goal is to transition innovative power electronic concepts from the research phase into actual product development.

Responsibilities

• Manage the laboratory infrastructure, which includes coordinating maintenance, scheduling equipment calibration, and handling supplies.
• Maintain lab safety standards and organize workspace layouts to accommodate several concurrent projects.
• Design and construct power electronics prototypes ranging from medium voltage to megawatt levels to support scientific research.
• Help set up test configurations and conduct testing alongside scientific personnel.
• Work closely with internal and external partners while guiding apprentices in their daily activities.

Requirements

• Hold a completed apprenticeship as an automation technician (Automatiker EFZ) with hands-on machining experience.
• Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English.

Nice to have

• Further education from a Higher Technical School or University of Applied Sciences in power electronics, energy systems, or related fields.
• Experience using CAD design software like Creo, Solid Edge, or SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of PCB design.
• Strong background in electrical circuit design, grounding concepts, and wiring standards.
• Practical experience in building and prototyping power electronic systems, including mechanical work and implementing improvements.
• Basic understanding of electrical standards and familiarity with lab technologies such as 3D printing, LabVIEW, and laser cutting/engraving.
