This position serves as the primary point of care and supervision within the boys' boarding house at La Garenne International School. The House Parent is responsible for fostering a safe, supportive, and structured living environment for students from diverse backgrounds. The role demands availability during evenings and weekends, and qualified teachers may also integrate this pastoral duty with classroom instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Guarantee the physical safety and security of all residents and staff within the house.
  • Oversee student well-being, including personal hygiene, meal times, study habits, and leisure activities.
  • Enforce the school’s Child Safeguarding and Anti-Bullying protocols strictly.
  • Handle medical emergencies when the School Nurse is not present.
  • Maintain a visible and accessible presence in the boarding house to support students.
  • Build trusting, supportive relationships with every student.
  • Provide active listening and emotional support to residents.
  • Model and promote the school’s Guiding Statements in daily interactions.
  • Manage discipline and encourage positive behavior in line with school policies.
  • Ensure compliance with uniform and dress code regulations.
  • Monitor daily bedroom tidiness and respect for school property.
  • Organize creative and engaging after-school activities.

Requirements

  • Prior experience working with young people in a boarding school context.
  • Fluent proficiency in English.
  • A good honours degree or an equivalent professional qualification.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • A clear understanding of safeguarding principles and student safety.
  • Ability to conduct and understand risk assessments.
  • Current first aid training.
  • A full, clean driving licence.
  • Reliability and strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to work weekends and evenings as required.

Nice to have

  • Fluency in French or Spanish.
  • Qualified teaching status, allowing for a combined pastoral and academic role.
