The company is seeking a senior engineer to direct the complete design lifecycle of laser chips, from initial concept through to final release. This role involves defining device architectures and optimizing performance, while fostering innovation through advanced simulation and data-driven methods.
Responsibilities
- Direct all phases of laser chip development, including defining device architecture, epitaxial structures, and grating designs.
- Champion advancements in semiconductor laser technology by utilizing simulation, modeling, and data analysis.
- Coordinate with manufacturing and engineering groups to validate designs experimentally, ensuring they are robust and ready for mass production.
- Manage structured failure investigations and root-cause analyses to enhance yield, reliability, and overall device performance.
- Perform electro-optical testing and reliability evaluations to maintain high product quality standards.
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9000, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and other relevant quality and environmental management standards as required by the role location.
Requirements
- PhD in Physics, Optics, or Electrical Engineering, or a Master’s degree combined with at least three years of industry experience in semiconductor laser development.
- Extensive knowledge of semiconductor laser physics and InP-based laser diode design, covering epitaxial structures, optical mode engineering, and grating design.
- Solid grasp of semiconductor manufacturing workflows, design for manufacturability, yield optimization, and process integration, supported by practical experience in electro-optical characterization and reliability assessment.
- Proficiency with advanced simulation and modeling tools, statistical analysis software, and programming for data evaluation and automation.
- Proven ability to lead projects and foster cross-functional collaboration, coupled with strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills.
- Excellent English communication skills (German beneficial).
