Axpo Tegra AG seeks an Intern in Energy Meteorology for a hybrid role in Baden, CH. The position combines AI weather modeling, data engineering, and meteorological support within an international team.
This internship allows candidates to investigate the impact of artificial intelligence on weather and energy prediction. The successful applicant will engage with advanced weather models, construct data infrastructure, and collaborate with a global team to enhance forecasting capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Assess the effectiveness of advanced AI weather models for energy prediction purposes
- Develop data pipelines and utilities to handle, examine, and display meteorological forecast information
- Assist with daily meteorology desk tasks, such as providing weather updates, tracking forecasts, and performing specific analyses
- Work alongside diverse teams to create new forecasting methods
- Examine forecast results and convert them into actionable insights
- Propose improvements and help refine existing workflows and technical tools
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in or holding a BSc or MSc degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Meteorology, or a related discipline
- Strong command of Python and practical experience with NetCDF and GRIB data formats
- Basic understanding of deep learning concepts, preferably using PyTorch, along with knowledge of transformer and graph neural network structures
- Genuine interest in atmospheric science and awareness of current AI-driven weather modeling trends
- Excellent verbal and written English communication abilities and strong teamwork skills

- Prior exposure to forecast verification, backtesting, model fine-tuning, or downscaling techniques
