AI Engineering Intern

Destinus · Zürich

Destinusgroup in Zürich, CH, is seeking an AI Engineering Intern to develop autonomous flight intelligence for drones. The role focuses on low-latency AI pipelines, vision-language-action models, and edge computing for defense and aerospace applications.

This internship supports the development of next-generation autonomous flight systems for drones, combining artificial intelligence, robotics, and edge computing. The work involves hands-on engineering to enable real-time voice-to-action control in high-pressure environments, contributing to Destinusgroup’s mission of advancing unmanned aerial vehicles for defense and aerospace.

Responsibilities

  • Create and optimize AI pipelines that convert voice commands into real-time drone actions using edge computing hardware.
  • Evaluate and adapt vision-language-action models for autonomous flight and FPV drone control.
  • Design software interfaces linking edge computing systems with FPV control links and drone communication protocols.
  • Prepare and fine-tune multimodal datasets combining voice instructions with FPV visual data, including in noisy or tactical conditions.
  • Enhance inference speed and reduce latency across the full voice-to-action command chain for responsive and safe flight.
  • Collaborate with AI engineers, robotics experts, and aerospace teams to prototype and test new autonomous features.
  • Work with advanced hardware platforms such as NVIDIA Jetson and embedded AI systems.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s or PhD program in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of machine learning frameworks like PyTorch or JAX.
  • Familiarity with Transformers, Large Language Models, or Vision Language Models.
  • Practical experience with Linux-based embedded systems and edge AI hardware.
  • Knowledge of drone flight stacks such as PX4 or ArduPilot and communication protocols like MAVLink is beneficial.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to apply advanced AI concepts to physical hardware systems.
  • Comfortable in experimental settings requiring rapid iteration and creative solutions.

Nice to have

  • Experience with drone flight stacks such as PX4 or ArduPilot and communication protocols like MAVLink.
