Flyability seeks a Robotics Engineer Intern to enhance autonomous navigation for its drone platform, bridging research and real-world deployment in a collaborative Lausanne team.
This internship sits within a creative and dynamic team based in Lausanne. The position focuses on advancing the navigation capabilities of the company's autonomous drone platform, effectively connecting cutting-edge robotics research with practical, real-world applications.
Responsibilities
- Investigate, design, and apply techniques to boost autonomous navigation and environmental awareness for robots working in challenging settings.
- Create and refine algorithms that enable autonomous operation, ensuring a balance between reliability, efficiency, and mission goals.
- Incorporate new features into the current navigation and autonomy software, then test performance via simulations and live drone trials.
- Establish metrics to evaluate system performance, focusing on robustness, efficiency, reliability, and overall behavior.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a Master’s program in Robotics, Computer Science, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Prior experience in robotics, autonomous navigation, exploration, motion planning, SLAM, or similar areas.
- Proficient in C++ and Python, with hands-on experience using ROS1 and ROS2.
- Proven ability to implement and test robotics algorithms on physical systems, not just in theory or simulation.
- Strong grasp of path planning, state estimation, mapping, probabilistic robotics, or optimization.
- A practical, hands-on approach combined with strong analytical skills to translate research concepts into real-world solutions.
- Ability to read and apply ideas from scientific papers.
- Fluent English communication skills.
Nice to have
- Prior experience working with drones.
- Knowledge of French or other additional languages.
