Flybotix seeks a Senior Robotics Software Engineer to lead embedded and ground control software development for autonomous drones. The role focuses on Rust, C++, ROS2, and GUI design.
This hands-on position sits within the core robotics development team at Flybotix. The engineer shapes both onboard and ground-based software, directly influencing autonomous navigation, real-time control logic, and the overall user experience of the drone systems.
Responsibilities
- Create and improve the graphical interface for ground control, including real-time telemetry and data visualization tools.
- Design, write, and maintain embedded software running on onboard computers.
- Collaborate with firmware and software peers to optimize system performance.
- Develop and sustain communication protocols linking drones, ground stations, and cloud infrastructure.
- Ensure reliable, memory-efficient operations in resource-constrained environments.
- Maintain high code quality through testing, clean architecture, and maintainable practices.
- Participate in architectural discussions, balancing scalability, performance, and usability.
Requirements
- Over five years of experience in embedded or mobile software development for robotics, drones, or real-time systems.
- Deep proficiency in Rust for performance-critical components.
- Solid experience with C++ in embedded contexts and performance tuning.
- Expertise in ROS2 for robotics middleware and gstreamer for video pipelines.
- Familiarity with embedded Linux, containerization, ARM architectures, and video encoding/decoding with hardware acceleration.
- Experience building GUIs using egui or Qt, plus 3D visualization skills with OpenGL, Vulkan, or engines like Unity/Unreal.
- Strong debugging capabilities for complex, distributed systems.
- Excellent English communication skills.
Nice to have
- French language proficiency.
- Prior work with PX4 or ArduPilot ecosystems.
- Knowledge of GPU acceleration frameworks like CUDA or OpenCL, particularly on NVIDIA Jetson.
- Background in game development using Unity, Unreal Engine, or Godot.
- Contributions to open-source robotics or embedded projects.
