Loki Robotics seeks a Senior Robot Platform Software Engineer in Zürich to build the core development infrastructure, ensuring safe code execution and reliable deployments for autonomous field operations.

This position serves as the foundational platform engineering role at Loki Robotics, focusing on the backbone of the development lifecycle. The engineer will ensure that software runs safely, deployments remain atomic, and robust tools are available for troubleshooting and roll-backs. As the first dedicated platform engineer, this role significantly influences engineering culture, allowing the individual to either act as a high-impact generalist or specialize in leading specific subsystems.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize the onboard Linux environment by tuning the kernel, applying real-time patches (PREEMPT_RT), managing resource isolation via cgroups, and collecting host metrics.
  • Ensure seamless and deterministic communication between software and hardware components, including drivers using protocols such as UDP/TCP, CAN, and serial interfaces.
  • Create and maintain CI/CD pipelines that support multi-architecture builds and secure over-the-air (OTA) updates, utilizing Docker and Ansible.
  • Implement strong engineering standards, including hardware-in-the-loop test frameworks, memory safety checks, and comprehensive code guidelines.

Requirements

  • At least three years of professional software engineering experience, ideally within Robotics, Automotive, or Aerospace sectors.
  • Proficiency in systems programming with modern C++ and practical experience using Python.
  • Solid understanding of Linux internals, including the networking stack, systemd, security hardening, and performance profiling techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with build systems like CMake and Cargo, infrastructure automation tools such as Ansible and Terraform, and software deployment methods including Docker and debs.
  • Demonstrated ability in test automation, covering both unit and integration testing.
  • Flexibility to contribute effectively across various technical domains.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with Rust, ROS2, or Zenoh.
  • Experience conducting hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and simulation-in-the-loop (SIL) testing.
  • Background in integrating and debugging real-world hardware, such as sensors, actuators, and motor drivers.
  • Prior work experience with NVIDIA Jetson platforms.
