FELFEL seeks a Senior IoT Platform Engineer in Zürich to manage the end-to-end runtime for its smart appliance fleet, ensuring reliability and streamlined operations across its hardware network.
This position is central to constructing the core infrastructure of smart workplace technology. The successful candidate will be responsible for transitioning the company's hardware fleet into a robust, efficient system, supporting smart fridges and coffee machines deployed in offices throughout Switzerland and the United States.
Responsibilities
- Take full ownership of the device runtime for coffee machines and refrigerators, covering zero-touch provisioning, device bootstrapping, call-home mechanisms, and on-device applications.
- Lead the consolidation of fleet management onto a unified platform and make key architectural decisions.
- Simplify the edge environment by reducing the variety of programming languages used and aligning cloud and device ecosystems more closely.
- Collaborate with the Head of Engineering to define specifications for next-generation hardware, select vendors, and establish software contracts.
- Oversee vendor relationships and manage integrations with suppliers, including those providing badge readers.
- Provide practical engineering insights to the team regarding the actual performance and success of systems in the field.
Requirements
- At least five years of experience developing production systems with a proven history of shipping and operating a real device fleet.
- Strong expertise in edge platform issues, including networking, Linux/Android on compact hardware, OS-level debugging, and observability.
- Proficiency in at least two of these languages: C#, Go, or Kotlin.
- Deep understanding of hardware interfaces, including Modbus, USB, serial connections, sensor datasheets, and vendor SDKs.
- Fluent English communication skills.
- Possession of a Swiss passport or a valid work permit for Switzerland.
Nice to have
- Experience with Balena, Azure IoT Hub, KubeEdge, Kubernetes, Docker, or containerized workloads.
- Familiarity with commercial appliance ecosystems and the ability to read electronics datasheets.
- German language skills.
