Wingtra 2 seeks a Robotics Firmware Intern with a GNC focus in Zürich. The role involves developing embedded C/C++ software for aerial robots, supporting flight control systems, and validating features through simulation and real-world testing.
This internship offers a chance to join a venture-backed robotics scaleup dedicated to building advanced aerial robots. The position focuses on developing and deploying embedded software for the WingtraRAY platform, contributing to flight control logic, and validating new features through simulation and field tests. The intern will work within a global team of over 125 professionals to digitize data collection across various industries.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement embedded C/C++ software features for the WingtraRAY platform and future products.
- Assist in the development, tuning, and validation of flight control, state estimation, trajectory generation, and failsafe logic.
- Validate new flight features using simulation and real flight data before deployment.
- Contribute to the firmware codebase, including sensor integration, actuator logic, and system communication.
- Analyze flight and system logs from internal testing and customer operations, and enhance Python-based log analysis tools.
- Design and execute automated tests, hardware-in-the-loop campaigns, and in-field drone tests.
- Collaborate with QA, hardware, production, and app teams to ensure robust system integration.
- Participate in team meetings, technical discussions, code reviews, and company-wide events.
Requirements
- Completed a B.Sc. and currently pursuing a M.Sc. in Software, Robotics, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong interest in flight dynamics, guidance, navigation, control, and estimation.
- Proficient in C/C++ development, with an interest in embedded real-time and resource-constrained systems.
- Comfortable using Python for data analysis, visualization, and handling large time-series datasets.
- Solid understanding of control systems, system dynamics, signal processing, linear algebra, recursive estimation, and optimization fundamentals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently on technical problems.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with a good command of spoken and written English.
- Collaborative, self-motivated, and open to feedback, with a strong sense of ownership and engineering responsibility.
- EU citizenship or enrollment in a Swiss institution required to comply with work-permit regulations.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with git, code review, CI, and AI-assisted development workflows.
- Experience with PX4, ArduPilot, MAVLink, Dronecode SDK, or other UAV/autopilot software stacks.
- Hands-on experience with system identification and control tuning.
- Experience with soldering, electronics debugging, or hands-on robotics work.
- Driving license (B).
