AI Engineer

Crypto Finance, part of Deutsche Börse Group, seeks a Mid-level AI Engineer in Zürich to build and maintain AI-driven data solutions for digital asset services. The role involves collaborating with internal teams, developing production-ready AI systems, and supporting the company’s innovation lab and AI governance framework.

The company operates in Switzerland and Germany under FINMA and BaFin regulation, and holds a MiCAR license for the European market. As an AI Engineer, you will support innovation and compliance by developing AI systems and maintaining governance processes, working onsite at the Prime Tower in Zürich.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with teams in Compliance, Trading, Operations, Legal, Sales, and Finance to identify and prioritize impactful AI use cases.
• Design and implement production-grade data solutions, including deterministic automations, AI agents, RAG systems, and structured data extraction pipelines.
• Establish and manage the firm’s innovation lab for prototyping and evaluating new AI applications.
• Maintain reusable, version-controlled prompt and skill libraries instead of one-off scripts.
• Track and document all AI systems and use cases across the company, including those developed outside the D&A team.
• Manage the operational side of the company’s AI approval process, including documentation, risk classification, model cards, and evaluation artifacts.
• Review proposed AI initiatives from other departments and advise on scope, risk, and technical design.
• Contribute to ELT pipelines using the Dagster + SQLMesh + dlt stack, especially for AI and automation needs.
• Develop the data infrastructure that supports AI workloads, including feature views, document indexes, and structured event tables.
• Maintain infrastructure as code in Git with standardized review and deployment practices.

Requirements

• 3–6 years of experience in AI engineering, analytics engineering with AI focus, or data engineering transitioning into AI; proven shipped work is key.
• Hands-on experience with LLM applications, including structured data extraction and agentic patterns (tool use, multi-step workflows); ability to discuss past challenges and learnings.
• Strong Python skills with experience writing production-ready code, not just notebooks.
• Understanding of LLM evaluation methods (eval sets, regression tests, observability), retrieval concepts, and strategies to mitigate hallucination.
• Familiarity with at least one orchestrator (Dagster, Airflow, Prefect) and one transformation framework (SQLMesh, dbt).
• Proficiency in SQL, including window functions, joins, and query design.
• Experience with cloud platforms, preferably GCP and BigQuery.
• Interest in regulated environments and the operational discipline they require.
• Professional English proficiency; German is beneficial.
• Eligibility to work in Switzerland (Swiss permit or EU/EFTA citizenship).
