Senior Data & Analytics Engineer – Artificial Intelligence

The Bank for International Settlements seeks a Senior Data & Analytics Engineer to advance its AI and data capabilities within the Banking Technology team in Basel.

This position sits within the Architecture, Platforms & Intelligence team and is responsible for advancing the organization's data, analytics, and applied artificial intelligence capabilities. The role focuses on designing and implementing advanced applications and services that support the institution's technological goals.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance data, analytics, and AI-driven IT applications.
• Create testing and evaluation frameworks for AI tools, with a specific focus on Large Language Model applications.
• Prepare large unstructured datasets through exploration and pre-processing for AI modeling and analysis.
• Build APIs and interfaces to connect AI models with current systems and platforms.
• Ensure AI models remain effective and aligned with business objectives through ongoing monitoring and updates.
• Gather business requirements, design new applications or features, and provide support for live systems.
• Keep abreast of emerging AI technologies and best practices to enhance project results.
• Communicate regularly with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate operational tasks.
• Provide guidance and support to junior team members on specific tasks.
• Work closely with financial and business units to understand organizational structures and needs.
• Represent the BIS at external events as directed by senior leadership.
• Engage in professional development activities, including training, coaching, and assessment planning.
• Pursue relevant external professional accreditations to enhance performance and personal growth.
• Stay informed about technology trends, regulatory changes, and industry standards through continuous learning and participation in conferences.

Requirements

• A degree in a relevant discipline such as Computer Science, Data Science, or Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Demonstrated success in designing, building, and optimizing advanced AI solutions.
• Practical experience with data pipelines, analytical models, and data engineering tools, particularly for AI use cases.
• Proficiency in Python programming.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with financial or banking sectors, including treasury or asset management.
• Experience in mentoring junior colleagues.
