Advanced Data Engineer

Zühlke Group seeks a Senior Advanced Data Engineer in Schlieren, CH, to design and maintain data pipelines and advise clients on data solutions. The role requires strong Python/SQL skills, cloud platform experience, and fluency in German and English.

Responsibilities

• Act as a trusted advisor to guide clients toward effective technical solutions for their data challenges.
• Explain the purpose, rationale, and implementation of proposed solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Build, test, and oversee distributed data processing pipelines.
• Transform diverse data sets and sources into high-quality, reproducible datasets that are scalable and maintainable.
• Work alongside Architects, Software Engineers, and Data Scientists to ensure cohesive project execution.
• Identify the needs of various data producers and consumers to ensure delivered products meet their requirements.
• Execute projects using Agile methodologies, delivering incremental value from data early and often.
• Stay technically current by embracing new concepts and technologies.

Requirements

• Hold a university degree in computer science, software engineering, data science, or a related field.
• Possess a minimum of three years of experience in data or software engineering roles.
• Demonstrate experience in designing, building, and maintaining data products that satisfy consumer needs.
• Understand standard methods for data analysis, visualization, and optionally data science.
• Be familiar with various data architecture approaches, including Data Lake, Data Lakehouse, Medallion, Data Products, streaming, and batch processing.
• Have practical experience with cloud data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, or Amazon Sagemaker.
• Show proficiency in Python and SQL for data programming.
• Gain hands-on experience with both relational and non-relational databases.
• Understand big data infrastructures and concepts for storing and processing large or heterogeneous data volumes.
• Be comfortable handling structured and unstructured data types, including text, tabular, graph, time-series, geospatial, and image data.
• Apply agile development and DevOps methodologies in project delivery.
• Fluency in both German and English is mandatory for this position.

Nice to have

• Possess hands-on skills or a strong interest in technologies like Apache Spark, Delta Lake, Airflow, Kafka, Kubernetes, Terraform, FastAPI, and programming languages such as Scala, R, Java, Typescript, or .NET.
