AI Engineer

Adaptyv · Lausanne

Adaptyv seeks a Mid-level AI Engineer to build and optimize automated lab systems and internal AI agents in Lausanne, CH. The role focuses on software engineering, LLM integration, and process automation rather than ML research.

Adaptyv is developing an automated laboratory infrastructure where AI agents conduct biological experiments. This position involves creating the software layer that enables these agents to interact with lab instruments, automate business workflows, and provide data-driven insights to the internal team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain clean SDKs and MCP servers that allow AI agents and colleagues to easily integrate with internal lab orchestration and data APIs.
  • Enhance the lab-wide AI assistant by refining its system prompts, expanding its capabilities, and ensuring it can execute actions through APIs rather than just generating text.
  • Automate manual business processes by designing and implementing AI agents and workflows for tasks such as procurement, invoice reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Analyze experiment, commercial, and operational data to generate insights and answer complex questions that might otherwise be overlooked.
  • Package and promote powerful but underutilized capabilities by creating documentation, integrating them into daily workflows, and ensuring widespread adoption.
  • Implement evaluation frameworks, observability tools, and monitoring systems to track performance, detect regressions, and ensure reliability of AI systems and models.

Requirements

  • Proven software engineering skills with a focus on building production-grade systems rather than experimental notebooks.
  • Extensive practical experience with Large Language Models and agentic architectures, including function calling, tool use, multi-step workflows, MCP, and retrieval-augmented generation.
  • A platform-oriented mindset: ability to transform individual solutions into scalable, well-documented tools that the entire team can adopt.
  • An instinct for process optimization: identifying manual workflows that can be improved through automation and building robust, tested solutions.
  • Strong data fluency: comfortable navigating messy datasets, writing SQL queries, and creating dashboards or automated reports using notebook/BI tools.
  • Cross-functional collaboration skills: ability to communicate effectively with lab scientists, operations staff, and commercial teams.
  • A bias for action: rapid prototyping, iterative development, and ownership of the entire lifecycle of AI agents, ensuring maintainability and long-term scalability.
  • Genuine interest in biology and the intersection of AI with physical-world experimentation, even without a formal background in the field.
