Visium seeks a Staff AI Engineer in Lausanne, CH, for a full-time onsite role. The position involves leading complex AI projects, mentoring teams, and driving technical excellence in ML delivery, with a focus on LLMs, RAG, and scalable production systems.

As a Staff AI Engineer, you will lead high-impact machine learning initiatives from concept to production, shaping technical strategy and quality standards. This role involves guiding engineering talent and advancing the company’s ML delivery practice beyond model development.

Responsibilities

  • Define technical direction for teams, ensuring architectural quality and long-term maintainability of solutions.
  • Lead and mentor engineers at all levels to elevate technical standards across projects.
  • Contribute hands-on to high-quality code in data processing, modeling, and deployment pipelines while delegating effectively.
  • Collaborate with clients to turn complex business needs into clear technical plans and deliver measurable results.
  • Promote modern ML practices and cutting-edge methods across system design, modeling, and MLOps.

Requirements

  • 6 to 8 years of experience in machine learning, data science, or related domains.
  • Strong programming skills in Python.
  • Expertise in ML/DL frameworks such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch.
  • Experience with data visualization tools including Matplotlib, Seaborn, Power BI, Tableau, and D3.js.
  • Deep learning background with knowledge of RNNs, CNNs, clustering, regression, and classification techniques.
  • Experience designing, developing, and deploying LLM-based applications, including RAG systems, with expertise in prompt engineering, vector databases, and knowledge retrieval pipelines.
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments, REST APIs, and microservices.
  • Proven experience in ML deployment, production pipelines, and scalable architectures on platforms like AzureML, AWS, and GCP.
  • Experience with data and AI platforms such as Databricks, Dataiku, and Snowflake.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects and deliver results under complex conditions.
  • Strong mentoring experience and ability to develop engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, able to connect technical and business goals.
  • Fluent in English.
