Junior HSE Coordinator-Biosafety & Lab HSE

Novartis Pharma Schweiz AG seeks a Junior HSE Coordinator for Biosafety & Lab HSE in Basel. This full-time, on-site role focuses on driving safety excellence, compliance, and risk management within laboratory environments.

The company is looking for a professional to support the implementation of biosafety and laboratory safety standards. The primary purpose of this position is to ensure compliance, promote sustainable lab operations, and help maintain a proactive safety culture across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Identify safety risks in lab settings through inspections and risk assessments to strengthen prevention efforts.
• Support the investigation of HSE incidents and near misses, including root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions.
• Improve safety performance by analyzing trends, sharing lessons learned, and integrating best practices into daily operations.
• Work with scientists and HSE teams to foster a culture of accountability and proactive safety awareness.
• Represent the team in leadership forums and assist with decision-making processes when required.
• Deliver training on biosafety and lab safety to enhance staff awareness and ensure adherence to standards.
• Create and update safety procedures, guidelines, and training materials to align with regulatory and organizational requirements.
• Engage in continuous learning and professional development within the HSE and biosafety fields.
• Maintain flexibility and responsiveness in a dynamic operational environment while fostering collaboration.

Requirements

• Initial professional experience in laboratory, research, or biosafety settings.
• Strong communication and presentation abilities.
• Confidence operating within laboratory environments.
• Ability to work independently and follow structured processes.

Nice to have

• A degree in life sciences, biology, biomedical sciences, safety, or a related field, or relevant professional experience as a laboratory associate.
• Proficiency in both German and English.
• Knowledge of additional national languages is considered an advantage.
• A personal interest in lab safety and/or biosafety.
