Roche seeks a Junior Investigative Toxicology Scientist in Basel to conduct wet-lab safety assessments for drug candidates using advanced in vitro models and analytical methods.
This position sits within Roche's Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED) division, specifically the Pathology and Applied Safety Science department. The role centers on evaluating the non-clinical safety of drug candidates, ranging from small molecules to complex biologics, through hands-on experimental work in a wet lab environment.
Responsibilities
- Create, refine, and execute in vitro toxicology tests, leveraging sophisticated 2D and 3D human cell systems.
- Plan, run, and document investigative toxicology studies to uncover toxicity mechanisms and anticipate potential safety risks.
- Contribute to building predictive in vitro safety frameworks and introduce modern toxicology assays to aid risk evaluation.
- Master cutting-edge analytical techniques such as high-content screening, confocal microscopy, and next-generation sequencing.
- Perform thorough data analysis and generate internal reports on study phases using the LIMS platform.
- Adhere strictly to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety, health, and environment (SHE) guidelines, ensuring careful material handling.
- Build and sustain partnerships with external suppliers and technology networks to integrate advanced laboratory methods.
Requirements
- A Master’s degree and a PhD in immunology, with a specific focus on modeling human immunology in vitro using tissue-relevant approaches.
- At least two years of postdoctoral experience gained in either an academic setting or a pharmaceutical company.
- Strong knowledge of developing 2D and 3D in vitro models, including organoids and organs-on-chips.
- Advanced skills in modern analytical tools like high-content imaging, confocal imaging, and transcriptomics.
- Fluent written and verbal communication abilities in English.
