Roche seeks a Senior Mechanistic Immuno Tox Scientist in Basel to lead non-clinical safety assessments for drug candidates, integrating immunology strategies and advanced predictive models within the pRED organization.

Positioned within the Pathology and Applied Safety Science department of Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED), this senior role focuses on evaluating the safety of drug candidates ranging from small molecules to complex biologics. The scientist will guide non-clinical safety assessments throughout discovery and development, ensuring robust immunotoxicology evaluations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead comprehensive immunosafety strategies for various portfolio projects.
  • Analyze in vivo immunosafety results and link them to mechanistic insights using investigative in vitro methods.
  • Synthesize complex immunological data into clear, unified safety documentation.
  • Enhance the physiological relevance of predictive in vitro cell models by incorporating human immunology principles.
  • Lead the optimization, validation, and scaling of 2D, 3D, and fluidic microphysiological safety systems.
  • Perform rigorous data analysis, validate assays critically, and manage study phase data reporting within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Present immunotoxicology assessments as the lead expert, converting specialized immune data into clear go/no-go recommendations.
  • Ensure study data compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate closely with pathobiology experts, wet-lab toxicologists, and clinical safety teams.
  • Foster an agile laboratory environment focused on process improvement, assay reproducibility, computational imaging automation, and faster compound turnaround.
  • Build and maintain strategic partnerships with external technology providers, Contract Research Organizations (CROs), and international scientific bodies.

Requirements

  • PhD in an immunology-related discipline.
  • Strong industry experience in human immunology or immunotoxicology assessment, particularly in vitro and/or in vivo.
  • Proven track record in developing integrated immunosafety strategies and improving predictive cell models.
  • Skilled in data curation, critical assay validation, and LIMS reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal abilities and adaptability in matrix environments.
