Awin AG seeks a Junior Software Engineer (Java) for a hybrid role in Switzerland. The position focuses on building and maintaining a marketing platform using Java, AWS, and microservices within a collaborative engineering team.
This position sits within a growing engineering group under an Engineering Manager. The primary purpose is to develop, refactor, and innovate code for an award-winning marketing platform while contributing to the design of distributed systems and new product features. The role demands a proactive, quality-focused approach to software creation.
Responsibilities
- Write, refactor, and innovate code while ensuring high quality and security standards.
- Design and construct distributed systems utilizing streaming, queueing, and database technologies.
- Collaborate with Product Managers to translate concepts into user stories and prioritize technical backlogs.
- Participate in the full service lifecycle within a small team, including reviews, retrospectives, and planning sessions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve customer-facing issues promptly.
- Communicate clearly with local and remote colleagues through meetings, documentation, and communication tools.
- Experiment with new technologies and drive process improvements.
Requirements
- Foundational knowledge of object-oriented programming, preferably in Java or Node.js.
- Experience with RESTful APIs, microservices, unit testing, relational databases, and event-driven architecture.
- Understanding of web technologies and practices.
- Familiarity with cloud-first development using Docker and AWS services (Lambda, ECS, DynamoDB).
- Knowledge of Git version control and agile methodologies.
- Exposure to Test-Driven Development (TDD) or Behavior-Driven Development (BDD).
- Ability to monitor applications and debug live, customer-critical issues.
- Fluent English communication skills.
- Willingness to take ownership of small technical decisions and engage with product teams.
