Software Development Engineer

Amazon Switzerland seeks a Junior Software Development Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable cloud-native systems. The role focuses on solving customer problems through innovative technology and AI-driven tools.

This position allows engineers to take ownership of the full software lifecycle, from initial design to deployment and ongoing operations. The role is centered on creating impactful solutions that serve millions of users globally, supported by a strong emphasis on continuous learning and mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Partner with diverse teams to create and manage innovative products and services.
• Architect and implement scalable solutions using microservices and cloud-native approaches.
• Engage in code reviews and help maintain technical documentation.
• Develop distributed systems that are resilient, cost-efficient, and fault-tolerant.
• Utilize and help improve GenAI and AI-powered tools to boost development efficiency.
• Write clear, maintainable code that adheres to established best practices and design patterns.
• Operate within an agile framework, applying CI/CD principles and handling on-call duties.
• Ensure operational excellence by monitoring systems, troubleshooting, and resolving production incidents.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related STEM discipline.
• Expected graduation between October 2025 and September 2026, or graduation within the past 24 months.
• Hands-on experience with at least one general-purpose programming language, such as Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
• Proven ability to implement data structures, develop basic algorithms, or apply object-oriented design principles.

Nice to have

• Prior technical internships or relevant project experience.
• Familiarity with AI development tools, cloud platforms (especially AWS), database systems (SQL and NoSQL), open-source contributions, version control, or debugging.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• A track record of quickly adapting to and learning new technologies.
• Basic knowledge of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
