GetYourGuide seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join the Communications Platform team in Zürich, focusing on backend development for customer communications. The role involves designing scalable systems, improving code quality, and supporting cross-functional teams in a hybrid work environment.
This position is within the Central Services group, which builds and maintains core platform capabilities critical to GetYourGuide’s global operations. The Communications Platform team is responsible for the technical foundation behind all customer communications, including email, push, SMS, and new channels, ensuring consistency and efficiency across the business.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, product, and data to deliver mission-critical features
- Continuously enhance code quality, system performance, and development processes
- Design and implement scalable backend solutions that support growing demands
- Support rapid iteration by creating and refining experiments, internal tools, and user-facing capabilities
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 years of professional software development experience
- Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot frameworks
- Proven ability to design and deploy web applications and services
- Experience with distributed systems and asynchronous messaging patterns
- Hands-on experience with large-scale operations, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-based DevOps practices
- Demonstrated skills in stakeholder management, technical leadership, and cross-team coordination
- Ability to translate ideas into fast, reliable, and maintainable code
- Proactive, team-oriented mindset with a passion for engineering excellence
- Customer-focused approach and data-driven decision-making
- Practical experience applying and experimenting with AI technologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English, including clear explanation of technical topics
Nice to have
- Experience creating internal SDKs, libraries, and API documentation for other teams
- Familiarity with communication platforms such as Sendgrid, Twilio, Postmark, and Braze
- Experience working with GraphQL ecosystems
- Background in SLO/SLA management and platform reliability
- Knowledge of security and scalability challenges in asynchronous workflows
- Experience migrating monolithic applications to microservices architecture
- Previous work in e-commerce or similar domains
- Prior experience in startup environments
