GetYourGuide seeks a Senior Software Engineer for its Localization Platform team in Zürich, focusing on backend development. The role involves building scalable systems for global content localization, supporting market launches, and enabling product teams to ship in any language. The position requires strong Java and Spring Boot skills, experience with distributed systems, and a passion for technical excellence in a hybrid work environment.
This role is part of the Central Services group, which builds foundational platform capabilities critical to GetYourGuide’s global operations. The Localization Platform Team creates systems that manage translated content and enable scalable, low-risk market rollouts. Their mission is to turn localization into a strategic, repeatable capability so any product team can launch in any market without handling translation themselves.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate in a cross-functional team with engineers, product, and data professionals.
- Continuously enhance code quality, system performance, and development processes.
- Design and implement scalable backend solutions that support growing demands.
- Support rapid iteration by creating experiments, internal tools, and user-facing features.
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 years of professional software development experience.
- Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot frameworks.
- Experience designing and deploying web applications and services.
- Familiarity with distributed systems and asynchronous messaging patterns.
- Experience operating at scale, including CI/CD pipelines and cloud DevOps practices.
- Proven ability in stakeholder management, technical leadership, and cross-team coordination.
- Capability to translate ideas into fast, reliable, and maintainable code.
- Positive, proactive attitude with a passion for software craftsmanship.
- Customer-focused approach and data-driven decision-making.
- Hands-on experience using and experimenting with AI technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to explain technical topics clearly.
Nice to have
- Experience creating internal SDKs, libraries, API documentation, and developer tooling for other teams.
- Prior work with localization platforms or tools.
- Experience in GraphQL ecosystems.
- Background in SLO/SLA management and platform reliability.
