Vontobel seeks a Senior Software Engineer in Zurich to design and maintain digital systems for internal processes. The role involves translating business needs into technical solutions, working with stakeholders, and contributing to a collaborative, innovative environment.
This position is part of Vontobel’s technology team in Zurich, focused on advancing the digitalization of internal processes. The engineer will own end-to-end delivery of technical solutions, translating business requirements into scalable systems while fostering continuous improvement in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
Responsibilities
- Build internal applications or set up commercial tools like Atlassian Jira to support business goals and improve operational efficiency.
- Lead new projects by aligning with stakeholders, defining requirements, designing solutions, and planning system architecture for long-term sustainability.
- Work directly with business teams to collect, clarify, and prioritize needs, serving as a link between technical and non-technical groups.
- Participate in code reviews and help refine development practices, standards, and workflows.
- Produce and maintain detailed documentation for software features, processes, and workflows to ensure clarity and accessibility.
- Support system stability by diagnosing and fixing application issues, ensuring reliable operations.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or completion of a software engineering apprenticeship.
- Proven experience with Java and/or Kotlin, with a history of delivering high-quality software.
- At least five years of practical software development experience, including handling complex problems and delivering results.
- Strong communication abilities, including the capacity to work across teams and explain technical topics clearly.
- Fluency in English is required; German is strongly preferred.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with Atlassian tools, especially configuring and using Jira, or a willingness to learn these skills.
