Backend Engineer

Airapps is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer in Zürich to design and maintain scalable server-side systems for its AI-powered resource planner, leveraging Node.js, TypeScript, and cloud technologies.

Airapps is developing the world's first AI-powered Personal & Entrepreneurial Resource Planner, a self-funded product that has already surpassed 100 million downloads globally. This position focuses on architecting, developing, and sustaining robust backend infrastructure while working closely with product and frontend teams to ensure scalable service delivery.

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop RESTful or GraphQL APIs, microservices, and core business logic utilizing Node.js and TypeScript.
• Handle data modeling and query management with Supabase and PostgreSQL, incorporating features like row-level security, real-time updates, and custom functions.
• Oversee service deployment and management on Google Cloud Platform, specifically utilizing Cloud Run, Cloud Functions, IAM, and Pub/Sub.
• Produce maintainable, testable code by implementing unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies using frameworks such as Jest.
• Establish secure-by-default mechanisms for authentication, authorization, and data safeguarding, adhering to Clean Code and Clean Architecture standards.
• Configure logging, monitoring, and alerting systems for backend operations, taking ownership of incident resolution and uptime optimization.
• Engage in architectural planning, provide mentorship to colleagues, and maintain comprehensive documentation for internal knowledge transfer.

Requirements

• Minimum of five years of professional experience in backend engineering.
• Demonstrated expertise in Node.js and TypeScript development.
• Extensive background working with Supabase or comparable PostgreSQL-based backend solutions.
• Practical experience deploying and managing services on cloud platforms like GCP, AWS, or Azure, including serverless compute options such as Cloud Run, AWS Lambda, or Azure Functions.
• Deep understanding of Clean Code and Clean Architecture methodologies.
• Proven track record in API design (REST) and cloud-native application development.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, testing utilities, and Git version control workflows.
• Comprehensive knowledge of security principles, data protection regulations, and compliance standards.
• Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to team collaboration.
