Software Development Engineer - 2026

Amazon Switzerland seeks a Junior Software Development Engineer for a full-time, on-site role starting in 2026. The position focuses on building scalable cloud-native systems and solving customer problems through innovative technology.

This role allows engineers to address real customer challenges by leveraging modern technology and seeing their code impact millions of users globally. As an SDE-I, you will manage the full lifecycle of your software, from initial design to deployment and ongoing operations, within an agile environment where development cycles are rapid and ambiguity is common.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to design, build, and operate innovative products and services.
  • Create scalable solutions using cloud-native architectures and microservices within large distributed computing environments.
  • Engage in code reviews and help maintain technical documentation.
  • Develop resilient distributed systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, and cost-effective.
  • Utilize and contribute to GenAI and AI-powered tools to improve development productivity.
  • Write clean, maintainable code that adheres to best practices and design patterns.
  • Work in an agile setting practicing CI/CD principles and participating in on-call duties.
  • Ensure operational excellence by monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or having completed a Bachelor's or Graduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related STEM field.
  • Expected graduation between October 2025 and September 2026, or graduated within the last 24 months.
  • Experience with at least one general-purpose programming language such as Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust, or TypeScript.
  • Demonstrated experience in data structures implementation, basic algorithm development, or object-oriented design principles.

Nice to have

  • Previous technical internship(s) or demonstrated project experience.
  • Experience with AI tools for development productivity, cloud platforms (preferably AWS), database systems (SQL and NoSQL), open-source projects, version control systems, or debugging complex systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
  • Basic understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
