Lonza seeks a Laboratory Scientist for Phys-Chemical QC in Basel. The role involves executing routine testing for biologics and small molecules within a cGMP environment.
This position sits within the Laboratory Scientist Phys-Chemical QC team at Lonza’s Drug Product branch, which operates across Basel and Stein in Switzerland. The team is part of a growing and successful division focused on pharmaceutical production.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine physico-chemical analyses, including U/HPLC, CE-SDS, icIEF, and compendial methods, for both biologics and small molecules under cGMP guidelines.
- Manage basic laboratory operations, such as preparing mobile phases and calibrating or troubleshooting equipment.
- Provide technical support to the Business Process Owner for investigating and resolving equipment issues.
- Maintain 6S standards by managing chemical inventory and consumables according to established processes.
- Serve as the Instrument Responsible Person, leading the maintenance and requalification of assigned laboratory equipment.
- Train colleagues on the use of specific equipment and associated analytical methods.
- Assist with analytical method validation and transfer activities as needed.
- Identify opportunities for operational optimization and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
- Support the Pikett Service for Drug Product analytical infrastructure.
Requirements
- Completion of vocational training as a lab technician (EFZ, HF, CTA, BTA, PTA) or a BSc./MSc. degree.
- Professional experience in analytical testing within the pharmaceutical, biotech, or chemical industries.
- Demonstrated experience working in a cGMP-regulated environment with a focus on phys-chem analytics.
- Ability to accurately report, interpret, and document scientific results in compliance with ALCOA++ GDocP principles.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with laboratory software such as Empower, Electronic Laboratory Journals, or LIMS systems.
- Additional language skills beyond English.
