Saab Bofors Dynamics Switzerland Ltd seeks a Lead Software Engineer to lead technical design and development of complex telephony and communication systems within its Public Safety Solutions domain. This role leads the technical design and development of complex telephony and communication systems, contributing to Saab’s Public Safety Solutions domain. It involves working in a global high-technology environment focused on emergency response and communication systems, with the business undergoing a strategic transition including the divestment of Public Safety Solutions to Omda, announced in June 2026.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design and development of telephony and communication systems.
- Serve as the technical authority for architecture and engineering decisions related to telephony.
- Promote engineering best practices, including coding standards, scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
- Mentor engineers, support technical growth, and contribute to knowledge sharing and roadmap planning.
- Identify technical risks, dependencies, bottlenecks, and technical debt proactively.
- Design, develop, and maintain software for telephony and communications platforms.
- Work with communication technologies such as SIP, RTP, VoIP, and PBX systems.
- Build scalable distributed services and real-time communication systems.
- Participate in full system design from architecture to deployment and operational support.
- Collaborate with customers and partners to understand operational needs and translate them into technical solutions.
- Analyze and troubleshoot complex communication flows.
- Advance CI/CD, automation, observability, and Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour Driven Development (BDD).
- Support Agile practices and contribute to continuous improvement and platform modernization.
Requirements
- Extensive experience with C# and .NET Core.
- Strong understanding of SIP, RTP, VoIP, and telephony systems.
- Proven experience in building distributed systems and microservices.
- Familiarity with Docker, Linux, SQL, and Git.
- Experience with CI/CD tools and automated testing methods including TDD and BDD.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting tools like Wireshark.
- Experience with platforms such as Asterisk or Kamailio.
- Minimum of 10 years of software engineering experience.
- Demonstrated technical leadership or senior engineering experience.
- Deep understanding of scalable, real-time system architecture.
- Ability to mentor engineers and guide technical direction.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with Kubernetes and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Familiarity with ElasticSearch and observability tools.
- Background in event-driven architectures.
- Experience in mission-critical or regulated environments.
- Knowledge of security, accessibility, and data privacy principles.
