SwissDrones Operating AG seeks a Senior System Engineer Avionics - Communication Systems (a) in Buchs, CH, for a permanent hybrid role. The position involves designing and integrating communication systems for unmanned aviation products, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
This role focuses on the design, development, and integration of communication systems and data link solutions for the company’s unmanned aviation products. The engineer will define communication architectures and interfaces to enable secure and reliable data exchange throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Lead system design for assigned electrical and electronic systems across the entire product lifecycle
- Develop and maintain technical documentation including specifications, wiring diagrams, configurations, interface definitions, and test procedures
- Assemble prototypes of components and systems
- Oversee and assist in integrating systems into aircraft platforms
- Support ground and flight testing, including hands-on troubleshooting
- Perform root cause analysis and resolve technical issues
- Manage relationships with avionics component and system suppliers
- Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory standards
Requirements
- Higher education in Electrical Engineering, Avionics Engineering, or Systems Engineering, or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical, electronics, avionics, or system integration engineering
- Deep knowledge in communication systems, manufacturing support, assembly, and testing
- Proficiency in a major electrical CAD/ECAD tool for schematics, wiring, or harness design
- Practical, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- High adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced, growing environment
- Collaborative team player with strong cross-disciplinary communication abilities
- Fluent English, both written and spoken
- Experience using Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Outlook, Teams)
- Proactive, can-do attitude
- Strong ownership from project start to delivery
Nice to have
- Experience in high-quality, safety-critical industries such as aviation, automotive, or rail
- Background in certification processes or work under EASA Part21 regulations
- Familiarity with Jira and Confluence
- German language skills at B2 (Upper Intermediate) level
