Mechanical Engineer (Junior)

Rivr seeks a Junior Mechanical Engineer in Zürich to design and test robotic hardware for autonomous last-mile delivery, collaborating with electronics teams and refining manufacturing processes.

Amazon Rivr, an ETH Zurich spin-off acquired by Amazon in March 2026, develops wheeled-legged robots for complex urban environments. This role focuses on engineering the physical components of these autonomous delivery systems, ensuring they meet safety and performance standards for real-world deployment.

Responsibilities

• Engineer electro-mechanical systems, robotic payloads, and actuators for the company's fleet.
• Construct physical prototypes to assess operational capabilities and performance metrics.
• Collaborate with electronics specialists to embed printed circuit board assemblies within mechanical frameworks.
• Conduct thorough testing procedures to confirm hardware reliability, durability, and safety compliance.
• Produce comprehensive hardware documentation, covering specifications, assembly guides, and testing protocols.
• Develop and update guidelines and best practices to facilitate efficient knowledge transfer across teams.
• Enhance design standards and workflows by actively contributing to design review sessions.

Requirements

• Hold a Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Robotics, Automotive, or Aerospace fields.
• Possess at least two years of professional industry or research experience.
• Demonstrate proficiency with CAD software for mechanical design tasks.
• Exhibit deep knowledge of actuators, motors, materials, design for manufacturing, power transmission, mechanisms, and manufacturing technologies.
• Show strong familiarity with rapid prototyping technologies.
• Display robust problem-solving abilities, particularly in debugging and optimizing hardware components.

Nice to have

• Master's degree or equivalent research experience in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Automotive Engineering.
• Understanding of design principles for mass production.
• Experience with control systems and electronics integration.
• Background in control systems for consumer drones, AMR, or electric bicycles.
