CERN seeks a Junior Mechanical Engineer for its Mechanics, Development and Design section in Geneva. The role focuses on electromechanical systems for accelerator beam transfer, requiring a recent graduate from a CERN Member State.
This position is part of the Mechanics, Development and Design section at CERN. The engineer will help design advanced electromechanical systems used for accelerator beam transfer. The role offers the chance to work in a leading scientific research environment alongside experienced physicists and technicians.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the conceptual design and development of mechanical and electromechanical systems.
- Create engineering documentation, including 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and Bills of Materials.
- Support the manufacturing, assembly, testing, and installation of equipment.
- Collaborate with physicists, engineers, and technicians to translate conceptual requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Participate in the development of innovative technologies for high-voltage pulsed power and accelerator systems.
Requirements
- Initial experience designing mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD software.
- Exposure to ISO GPS standards and BOM preparation.
- Hands-on experience in structural simulations using finite element analysis.
- Theoretical knowledge in mechanical behaviour of materials and production methods.
- National of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
- Maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field).
- Highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
- Never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
- Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
- Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
Nice to have
- Experience with CATIA V5.
- Experience with additive manufacturing and 3D scanning.
- Experience with FEA software.
