Packaging Technology Strategy Project Leader

Roche seeks a Senior Packaging Technology Strategy Project Leader in Basel to architect industrialization strategies and bridge innovation with global manufacturing excellence.

Operating within Pharma Technical Operations (PT Global MSAT, Engineering and Sustainability), this position serves as the primary architect for the long-term management and industrialization of Roche’s technology portfolio. The role connects innovative technology development with global manufacturing standards, ensuring that packaging technologies are robust, sustainable, and aligned with broader corporate goals.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain the strategic technological roadmap for finished goods and packaging solutions.
• Collaborate with Pharma Technical Development, global MSAT, Engineering, and site manufacturing teams to align with global product and technology strategies.
• Establish technology lifecycle frameworks and define critical milestones for periodic standard re-evaluations.
• Advocate for the Packaging network’s technological requirements in senior stakeholder meetings and technical governance forums.
• Evaluate emerging technological innovations and convert them into actionable projects that enhance robustness, manufacturability, and sustainability.
• Guide the concept and pilot phases of new packaging technologies to help define final technology standards.
• Oversee and enforce compliance with technological standards across finished goods networks.
• Provide senior-level coaching and mentorship to technical staff within Global MSAT, engineering, and site teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, or Life Sciences.
• Over 15 years of industrial experience in process development, industrialization, manufacturing equipment development, or operations within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical sectors.
• Proven track record in matrix leadership and managing senior-level cross-functional teams.
• Recognized expertise in manufacturing and/or packaging technologies, with a strong focus on standardization.
• Deep understanding of pharmaceutical quality systems and ICH guidelines relevant to biologics process development and validation.
